FAQ - Players

Are you an agent?
No, I am not an agent. So talking to me does not violate any NCAA rules.

Who are you?
Please send me an email, and I am more than happy to tell you.

Will I find a team for sure, if I am listed on the players list?
No, I am sorry, I cannot promise you anything. I can promise to try my best. Although pitchers have the best chance of finding a team, catchers and infielders are also in demand. Outfielders and firstbase men only really have a chance, if they are exceptional hitters and can come for a whole season. But everyone can try and see what happens!

What do I have to do once I am listed on your website?
You have to talk to the teams which contact you. I do not negotiate for you. You can always ask me about my opinion about certain things, but this will be your experience, and you should take care of it from day one. Once you have committed to a team, please let me know, so I know you are not available for other teams anymore.

Can every player be listed on your website?
Yes. Everybody can try to find a team, but I cannot guarantee everyone will find a team.

When does the season begin and end?
The season starts around April, depending on each country, which also depends on the weather in each country. While Italy starts around early April, softball in northern Europe might start a couple of weeks later. The regular season is normally finished around late July. There is always a break for the national teams during the summer, and so the playoffs start around late August and last until mid or late September; in the Netherlands even until October. But for more detailed information, you have to ask the team you are talking to.

What, if I cannot be in Europe by the start of the season or have to leave before the season ends?
Coming a bit later is obviously not as bad as leaving the team before the playoffs. To play in certain countries and leagues, you have to be available for the whole season. But there are also teams which take players who come a bit later. There are not many teams which are interested in a player who cannot be with them until the end of their season. Coming late and leaving early makes it obviously harder to find a team. There is also a date by which a foreign player has to be registered or an amount of games a foreign player has to play to be eligible for the playoffs. I do not know the exact rule in each country, but I can find out, if its important to you.

What is offered?
As you can read on the main site, not every team has the same funds, and a lot of teams have no sponsors at all. There are teams which offer a deal that comes close to an NPF contract and others give you just enough to live. Besides the money, you will normally be offered a flight and a place to stay. In most cases, you cannot expect to make enough to pay bills back home. It is important to remember that this is not a job, but the chance to have a wonderful experience and spend a few months in Europe. To find out more about offers, please talk to the teams that contact you.

Is this a professional league?
No league in Europe is professional. There is no draft. The European players do not get paid, and go to high school, college, or work for a living. Sometimes they even have to pay a membership fee and buy their own equipment. Only foreign players get the offers described above.

How many games will be played?
This varies from league to league, but games are normally only on the weekends, and in most leagues doubleheaders are played. Practices are during the week in the evenings. For a more detailed answer please ask the team you are talking to.

How many foreigners are allowed to play on a team?
This varies from country to country. Right now there are three foreign players allowed on first division Italian teams, only one in the Netherlands and in most other European leagues each team can have two foreign players.

I heard that a foreign pitcher cannot pitch to a foreign catcher, is this true?
This is true, and from my information this rule exists in almost every European country except Spain, France, Czech Republic, and at the European Cup.

Will I play against teams all over Europe?
Each country has its own league system. A national league is only played among teams from one country. But there are obviously plenty of tournaments all over Europe, and maybe your team will be playing at one.

What is the European Cup?
The European Cup is a one week tournament organized by the European Softball Federation, and hosted by one of the teams competing. Only two teams per country qualify each year; the national champion of each country, plus a second team (either the runner-up or the Cup winner). There are two European Cups, the one for the national champions and the one for the other team, plus each tournament has an A-Pool and B-Pool, while the best teams play in the A-Pool, and the others in the B-Pool. The dates have changed a lot over the last few years, but it’s always held in the summer months.

What is the European Championship, and can I play there?
The European Championship is only for national teams. To play for a national team, you have to be a citizen of this country. You are a citizen, if you have a passport of this country. Most national teams would love to add experienced players from overseas.

I have heritage of a European country, how do I find out, if I can get a passport?
You have to contact the nearest consulate of this country in your home country, or get some information about it on the internet. The laws are different in every country, so you have to do some research on your own.

How can I find out more about certain countries?
Go and search on the internet. A good website is The World Factbook from the CIA but you can also use Wikipedia and try to find information about a country or even a town.

How can I find out more about certain teams and the experience of other foreign players?
The best way to find out more about a team, is to talk to former foreign players who played for the team. You can also read the Comments site on my website.

Do I need a visa to play in Europe? Can I get a working visa, so I can earn some extra money?
Some countries require a visa and some do not. Please ask the team you are talking to. From my information you cannot work legally over here, if you are not a citizen, and its not easy to get a working visa. But you can always talk to a team and ask them about work to earn some extra money.

How much does this service cost?
This service is free! If you end up playing for a team, I might ask you to send me a picture of you playing in Europe for my website and a comment for the website, so new players read about your experience and make a more informed decision.

To protect the girls listed on it. Not everyone has to know a player is interested in playing in Europe.

What is good? I was able to place girls who played professional softball and some girls who never played in college. It depends on what you are looking for, but almost every girl was an impact player on her team and did pretty well. Its your job to pick the right one.
